Your pet's health is costly
In the last 15 years, emergency medical care of animals has become almost on par with human care. What can be done to heal a seriously sick or injured cat or dog is astounding, experts say. So is the price. Critical care and surgery can cost thousands, and pet insurance isn't keeping pace. Which is why an area rescue agency is using some of its resources to defray costs for pet owners who find themselves having to choose between euthanizing a beloved pet or going into debt to spare him. Take the case of Melanie and her fianc, Joseph, of Morrisville. Melanie was so terrified at the time that she couldn't describe the make of the car that struck 10-month-old Sadie on July 1 except to say it was big. It seemed to take forever to pass so she could see whether the tiny Jack Russell terrier under it was still alive.
Norwich Union building insurance covers wet pets
In good news for pet owners whose home is at risk from floods, Norwich Union building insurance will cover the temporary relocation of the animal, should the worst happen. A spokesperson from Norwich Union said that people who have buildings insurance should be able to claim the costs of putting their pet in a kennel or a cattery if the animal is at risk. "We will pay, as part of the alternative accommodation, under a claim for flood, for reasonable accommodation expenses for you and/or your pet," he said. However, the spokesperson pointed out that actual injuries would not be covered by building insurance. "If your pet is injured, that is what pet insurance is there for," he said. Earlier this week, Sainsbury's Pet Insurance claimed that 34 per cent of the UK's combined cat and dog population are suffering from obesity.
Embrace Pet Insurance Launches HR Benefits Program
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OH -- 06/28/07 -- Psychologists have a name for it: the 'humanization' of pets; 63% of U.S. households have pets(1), and they are frequently considered 'one of the family.' So, when a pet gets sick or is injured, a 'pet parent' can be distraught. Couple this with the possibility of a gigantic vet bill and the stresses of a full-time job, and an employer of a pet parent probably has a worker productivity problem on its hands. With this in mind, Embrace Pet Insurance, a company that specializes in offering affordable, practical and simple pet health insurance plans, has launched "Embrace Your Employees," a new program that enables employers to offer pet health insurance to their employees. "Embrace Your Employees" is available immediately, which means employers can build it into their upcoming employee health benefits open enrollment programs that typically begin around this time of year.
Sainsbury’s Pet Insurance issues warning on pet obesity
New research from Sainsbury's Bank indicates that obesity is a serious problem affecting over a third (34%) of the UK's combined cat and dog population. Sainsbury's Pet Insurance estimates that around 2.72 million dogs and 2.87 million cats are suffering from obesity. According to a research study carried out by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, some 81% of animal physiotherapists think obesity is the number one health danger for dogs. Almost two-thirds of the physiotherapists believe the main causes of the rise in canine obesity are lack of exercise and overfeeding. Claire Moyles, Sainsbury's Pet Insurance Manager said: “Many pet owners may like to treat their animals with food and snacks intended for human consumption, but they must be aware of the detrimental effect this can have on their pet's health.

See Spot sneeze, scratch and cough
Ingram had an inkling of what might be wrong because two of Bravo's brothers already had been diagnosed with allergies. So Bravo was lightly sedated recently while veterinary allergist Terese DeManuelle carefully dotted his skin with 57 pinpricks, each testing for different allergens. Sure enough, Bravo is allergic to some trees and molds. Dogs don't seem to be allergic to people, but they are far from allergy-free. The Veterinary Pet Insurance company reports that the No. 1 reason for claims from dog customers in 2006 was allergies. The good news is that treatment for pets is just as advanced as it is for humans. With an early diagnosis and the right treatment, your dog can most likely leave its symptoms behind. DeManuelle explains that most dogs with allergies develop skin problems or ear infections.
