Friday 13th 'not unlucky' for homeowners
UK consumers are statistically not more likely to experience an accident at home on Friday 13th, one of which is imminent this week.
Barclays Insurance believes that claims made to the group on Friday 13ths since 2005 are actually some 15 per cent lower than claims made on other Fridays, despite the traditional superstition surrounding the date.
Mark Till, product manager at Barclays, said: "As the figures show, this so-called unlucky day in fact seems to have been luckier for UK homeowners than most other days."

VISTA -- A Superior Court judge on Monday temporarily blocked the city of Vista from releasing the names, addresses and telephone numbers of private employers who have registered to hire day laborers.Judge Michael Orfield said the restraining order would preserve the status quo while the court sorts out a conflict between two fundamental issues: the right to privacy versus the public's right to know. The next hearing will be on July 26. .
Thanks for troop support
When the 30 National Guard members from Fergus Falls and other Minnesota communities were headed into town Sunday afternoon, they probably expected a warm welcome. What they weren't expecting, however, was the number of local residents who left the lake or an air conditioned home on a hot Sunday afternoon. Residents of Fergus Falls and other areas where National Guard troops resided packed Friberg Avenue from one end to the other. Combined with a downtown Fergus Falls decorated in yellow, red, white and blue, it was clear that local residents wanted to make an impression that they appreciated and supported the troops. No question, there are differing opinions locally on the war in Iraq. But it's also clear that we appreciate the sacrifices our local troops have made over the past 18 months.
